More Explanation

Our Dr. Razavi post was an example of us having an expert and as credible communicator. So that when people read what she thought they would be more inclined to follow her lead.
Our New Regulations post was a complex two sided message that was aimed to appeal to central route processing. By explaining the new regulations we showed how new sunscreens are regulated and proven to increase protection against skin cancer. This is supposed to inturn make people think about using sunscreen on a more regular basis.
Our will Farrell post was an example of using a celebrity to attract and distract the viewer so that they are more likely touse the product in question
The post in which we showed sunburns and offered sunscreen as a simple way of eliminating the danger was our fear inducing message.
finally the image based post which chowed very severe burns and at the bottom suggested wearing sunscreen was our distraction based message. It is hard to not look at the images so the viewer spends more time looking at the burn and at the end is left with the message... use sun screen

Distracted

Fear

-          People are burned every day by powerful sun rays, often resulting in painful red skin.

-          Use sunscreen or your skin will turn red and blister.

-          Re-apply sunscreen to reduce the chance of sun burn and possibly save your life.

-          It’s easy to put on sunscreen every time you’re in the sun, use the buddy system.

New Regulations

I  recently read an article which discusses the new regulations placed on sunscreen companies. Previously people not using sunscreen could say that there are no guarantees and that although they offer a variety of different kinds, how can i even tell which ones do that they say they do. The new regulations put a stop to that. Now sunscreens must pass an FDA test to make sure they protect againt a "broad spectrum" for protection against uv A and uv B rays. Also those that pass the test must have an SPF of 15 or higher in order to claim that the reduce the risk of skin cancer or sun aging. The new regulations also protect against false water proof claims. Apparently they are not water proof only water resistant and the sunscreens that are not water resistant have to write on their label an advisement to wear water resistant sunscreen if in water or excessive sweating is a factor.

A Better Understanding

The point of this blog is to demonstrate How different  methods of persuasion work.
We used methods of classical conditioning, intensity, repetition, and subliminal messaging.
Our History of Leather skin post was to demonstrate intensity. It was the only post in which we enlarged any text and even used social cues such as a warning label.
Our Technological fixes showed the variety of ways in which people use sunscreen as a form of sun protection.
Our Social Engineering post showed how Copertone used ads to permeate popular culture, also it paired their product with things people like. ie the cute little doggie, and the child
Our Classic post we used classical conditioning by pairing a brand of sunscreen with attractive people
Our use sunscreen post implemented the technique of repetition as a way of getting people to alter their behavior
Our Subliminal messaging post was an image of sunblock underneath a smiley face so that after viewing it one might be more predisposed to think of sunscreen in a positive light

Sunscreen for your sunniest days!

These very well known adds have become a staple in our culture. By doing so it has made sunscreen more widely used which in turn helped people by blocking the Uv rays which cause cancer. This reduced instances skin cancer

technological fixes

now adays there is so much nervous energy about the UV rays that there are entire corporations dedicated to developing a variety of SPFs, active lines, and waterproofing
there are even eco friendly lines for those more involved in the Green movement

the history of leathered skin

In 1938 sunscreen was invented. In 1944 it started to become more widely used. But now there are a lot of old people with leathery skin because they were not taught about sun screen when they were younger.
